Two police officers killed during raid in Maan

AMMAN — Two police officers were killed on Tuesday at dawn during a raid in Maan, 220km south of the capital, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra. The Public Security Department (PSD) media centre said that the raid came after a tip-off that the main suspect of the shooting death of First Lt. Ayman Miqdadi on October 30 last year, who was also one of four masked armed men who attacked an army post in Disi last week was living in the city. Suspects opened fire at police forces as soon as they reached the designated house, Petra reported. Shots were also fired from nearby houses, which led to the deaths of the two officers. After giving orders for a ceasefire, which the suspects ignored, the PSD personnel returned fire and raided the house. The police found two wounded suspects inside the house, and they transported them to the nearest hospital. They succumbed to their wounds. Hours after the raid, a group of unidentified men opened fire at the police station in Maan indiscriminately, and fled the scene. The two police officers who were killed in the shooting were laid to rest on Tuesday, in Jerash and Zarqa.
